Canada goose
Linnaeus latinized the bird as canadensis in 1758 from specimens tied to the northern colonies, and the English name followed the scientific one. Birds introduced to Britain, Scandinavia, and New Zealand now breed there year round, and many North American flocks have given up migrating altogether.
