Khmara Bay

khmaralite
Jacques Barbier, Edward Grew and coworkers described khmaralite in 1999 from the pegmatite at Zircon Point in Khmara Bay, Enderby Land, on the coast of East Antarctica. The rock had been metamorphosed above 820 degrees Celsius and beyond ten kilobars, conditions that make beryllium minerals very unusual. Khmara Bay carries the name of Ivan Fedorovich Khmara, a tractor driver on the Soviet Antarctic Expedition who died in Antarctica in 1956.
