Roger Mitchell proposed orangeite in 1995 for the micaceous kimberlites that Wagner had separated from ordinary kimberlite in 1914, because they cluster in the old Orange Free State. Pipes such as Star, New Elands and Voorspoed are the type examples. The territory is now the Free State province of South Africa, and the Orange itself was named for the Dutch House of Orange.
