The entry

J. E. J. Martini described mbobomkulite, hydrombobomkulite and nickelalumite together in 1980 in the Annals of the Geological Survey of South Africa, all from Mbobo Mkulu Cave in the eastern Transvaal, now Mpumalanga. Nitrate minerals are rare and usually require both a nitrogen source and an arid setting. Type material is held at the Geological Survey museum in Pretoria.
