Cupertino effect
Older spellcheckers held cooperation only in its hyphenated form, so the unhyphenated spelling was corrected to Cupertino, the northern California city where Apple has its headquarters. Translators found the result in United Nations, NATO and European Union texts. The linguist Ben Zimmer named and popularized the phenomenon in 2007.
