Borodino bread
The bread takes its name from Borodino, the village west of Moscow where Napoleon met the Russian army in 1812, and a much-repeated legend credits a general's widow who founded a convent on the battlefield. The loaf sold today is a Soviet-era standard recipe, and the convent story has no contemporary support.
