Livermore

The element honors a laboratory, the laboratory honors a town, and the town honors a Californian cattle rancher.

Element 116 was made at Dubna in Russia in 2000 using targets supplied by the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, and was named livermorium in 2012 for that laboratory's part in the work. The laboratory takes its name from Livermore, California, which was named for Robert Livermore, an English sailor who jumped ship and became a ranchero there. Its longest lived isotope lasts a few tens of milliseconds.
