Orvieto ware
Large quantities of these green and brown jugs came out of disused wells and cisterns in Orvieto in the nineteenth century, and the town's name became the trade label for the type. Similar archaic maiolica was made across central Italy, so the name records where the pots were dug up more reliably than where each was thrown.
