Orvietite belongs to the local terminology used for the Roman volcanic province, where Henry Stephens Washington and others attached place names to each variant of leucite bearing lava. Orvieto sits on a butte of tuff from the Vulsini volcanic district in Umbria. The term has fallen out of international use in favor of chemical classification.
