Eggenburgian
The Paratethys, an inland sea that once stretched from Austria to central Asia, held fossil sequences that do not line up with the Mediterranean standard, so geologists built a parallel timescale from local reference sections. Eggenburgian comes from Eggenburg in Lower Austria, a walled town of about 3,500 people; its neighbors on the scale are the Egerian, Ottnangian and Karpatian, all named the same way.
