Abukuma River

Hata described abukumalite in 1938 from the Suishoyama pegmatite at Iisaka in Fukushima Prefecture, on the western edge of the Abukuma highlands. Levinson's 1966 reform of rare earth nomenclature discredited the name in favor of britholite-(Y). Sources differ on whether the eponym is the Abukuma River itself or the highlands that take their name from it.
