Quonset hut
The US Navy had the design worked up in 1941 at Quonset Point, Rhode Island, adapting the British Nissen hut of the First World War so that untrained crews could bolt one together in hours. The place name itself is Narragansett in origin, from the long low point of land the base was built on.
