Jersey Devil
The legend attaches to the Leeds family of Burlington County and a supposed thirteenth child born in 1735. A week of reported sightings across the Delaware Valley in January 1909 filled the papers, closed schools and factories, and fixed the name Jersey Devil in print. New Jersey's National Hockey League team took the name in 1982 after a fan vote.
