The entry

Per Teodor Cleve separated holmium at Uppsala in 1879 and named it from Holmia, the Latin form of Stockholm, his home city. Marc Delafontaine and Jacques-Louis Soret had independently detected its absorption lines in Geneva the previous year and called it element X. Cleve found two new elements in the same batch of residues: the other was thulium.
