Brazil plum
Spondias tuberosa survives the droughts of the Brazilian sertao by storing water in swollen underground tubers, which is why it fruits where almost nothing else does. The fruit is eaten fresh and made into juice, ice cream and wine. Its other English name, umbu, comes through Portuguese from Tupi.
