Pitt Street

Each Australian capital has its own version of the insult, keyed to its main business street.

Pitt Street is the spine of Sydney's business district, so the phrase locates the farmer at his desk rather than on his land. Melbourne says Collins Street farmer and Brisbane says Queen Street farmer for exactly the same person. The tag carries the suggestion that the property is held for tax reasons and run by someone else.
