Jingdezhen

The teacup is named for the country that made porcelain famous in Europe.

English china is a shortening of china-ware, porcelain imported from China. Jingdezhen was the great kiln city behind much of that trade, so the country name became the crockery.

The clay behind porcelain is named for a hill in Jiangxi.

The name comes from Gaoling, a hill near Jingdezhen in Jiangxi whose clay was worked for ceramics. European traders took the place name along with the material.
