Well attestedThe Hungarian town famous for a wine called bull's blood also names a slice of geologic time.
Like the Eggenburgian above it, the Egerian belongs to the Paratethys timescale that central European geologists built because their fossil sequences did not match the Mediterranean ones. It is defined on sections near Eger in northern Hungary. The town is better known for withstanding an Ottoman siege in 1552 and for the red wine sold as Egri Bikaver, bull's blood.
