Well attestedA Spanish governor named a baking Philippine plain after the hottest town in Andalusia.
Fausto Cruzat y Góngora, governor general of the Philippines from 1690 to 1702, established a military district on the baking inland plain north of Manila and named it for Écija, his home town in the province of Seville. Écija is nicknamed la sartén de Andalucía, the frying pan of Andalusia, for its summer heat. The Philippine province is now the country's largest rice producer.
