Cheget

Russia's nuclear command kit is named after a ski mountain in the Caucasus.

The Cheget was developed under Yuri Andropov and entered service in March 1985 as the portable terminal of the Kazbek command system, linked by the communications network called Kavkaz. All three names come from the Caucasus: Kavkaz is the range itself, Kazbek and Cheget are peaks, and Mount Cheget in Kabardino-Balkaria faces Elbrus across a valley and carries a well-known ski lift. The case transmits authorization; it does not launch anything itself.
