Caracoles, Antofagasta

It is named after the nearest town rather than the mine, which is why the mine's own name never entered mineralogy.

Websky described caracolite in 1886 from the Beatriz mine at Caracoles, a silver camp in the Sierra Gorda district of Chile's Antofagasta region. It occurs with boleite, pseudoboleite, bindheimite and anglesite. Caracoles was a boom camp of the 1870s silver rush and is largely abandoned today.
