Cape Cod

Named for the cranberry bogs, not the beaches.

The sandy wetlands behind the dunes made Massachusetts the center of American cranberry growing, and the peninsula's name came with the juice when growers pushed it as a mixer in the mid-20th century. The word is a plain demonym for a person from the Cape; the drink borrowed it.
