Baljevac na Ibru

Serbia turns out to hold one of Europe's few boron basins, and this mineral is its signature.

Jarandolite was described in 2004 from the Jarandol Basin, a Miocene lake basin about 280 kilometers south of Belgrade near Baljevac on the Ibar. The basin's evaporite beds carry a cluster of rare borates, and jarandolite was found in the drill core from them. Type material is held at the Fersman Mineralogical Museum in Moscow.
