Alston Moor

The same mineral got two place names four years apart, and both are still in use.

Thomas Thomson named bromlite in 1837 after Bromley Hill, the lead mine near Alston in Cumberland whose specimens reached him through a dealer in 1834. August Breithaupt of the Freiberg Mining Academy named the same mineral alstonite in 1841 after the town instead. The mine is now usually written Brownley Hill, so the mineral preserves a spelling the map has abandoned.
